HE POROPOROAKI - Dame Nganeko Minhinnick (15 June 2017)

“Past wrongs can be put right, in a practical way,
and it is not too late to begin again”.
Waitangi Tribunal decision on the Manukau Harbour Claim 1985

As we rebuild and introduce our families back to our papakāinga here at Pūkaki, we quote those words often. Many of us were there during those three weeks. Most of us Te Ākitai kids playing with your Ngāti Te Ata kids, our cousins, our whānau. But we knew then, and we remember now, that you made that possible, you, Aunty Donna, our parents, our grandparents, our Te Arikinui and many others from many tribes. Thank you Aunty. We love you. May you rest in peace.
